A total of 112 people were killed in 798 road accidents across the country in April in which Laos’ traditional new year, mostly known as Pi Mai Lao B.E 2564, was celebrated.
According to a report by the Traffic Police Department, Ministry of Public Security, some 1,309 people were also injured and 1,510 vehicles were damaged in road accidents last month.
The accidents also resulted in an estimated damage of over 11.2 billion Lao kip (about 1.1 million U.S. dollars).
Most road accidents were caused by drink driving and speedy driving, according to the report.
