A special plane from China arrived at Wattay International Airport, Vientiane yesterday evening bringing 800,000 doses of Covid-19 vaccines and over 803,000 syringes.
A handover ceremony for the medical supplies donated by the Chinese government took place at the airport in the participation of Prime Minister Phankham Viphavanh, Prime Minister and Minister of National Defense Gen. Chansamone Chanyalath, and Chinese Ambassador to the Lao PDR Jiang Zaidong.
“The first batch of Vaccine doses arrived in Laos weeks ago. The Chinese vaccines have shown that life is the most important. It helps protect the peace of the nation and people and represents China’s responsibility. Today, on the occasion of Lao New Year which is approaching, the government and army of PR. China sent Covid-19 vaccines, the second batch of its kind, to Laos as a gift for the Lao PDR, and this obviously proves that China has actively contributed to sharing vaccines to developing countries and demonstrates the spirit of giving of partnership of shared destiny,” said Ambassador Jiang Zaidong.
Prime Minister Phankham Viphavanh expressed gratitude to the Party, government, people and army of China for their contribution to fight against Covid-19 in the Lao PDR.
“Today’s handover of vaccines constitutes a Pi Mai gift for not only the Lao PDR but also the 9th government. The previous batch of vaccines were distributed and administered to risk groups across the country. So far, there has been no reports about any serious side effects among the vaccinated and this shows that China’s vaccines are safe and effective,” said PM Phankham Viphavanh.
“As for today’s assistance, we will continue to administer the vaccines to all risk groups as soon as possible and the government has agreed with relevant authorities that we will administer these vaccines to all Chinese nationals working and investing in the Lao PDR as well,” added the premier.
