(KPL) The 15th ASEAN Senior Officials Meeting on Social Welfare and Development in Vientiane Capital was held yesterday to review Action Plan on Social Welfare and Development 2016-2020.
The 15th ASEAN Senior Officials Meeting on Social Welfare and Development under the theme: “Strengthening Social Protection of Vulnerable Children In ASEAN” provided an opportunity for senior officials of ASEAN member states to discuss and exchange views on the implementation of declarations, regional frameworks and action plans on strengthening social protection, gender-responsive implementation of ASEAN Community Vision 2020 and SDGs, and progress in implementing ASEAN Strategic Framework on Social Welfare and Development 2016-2020.
The meeting also allowed the participants to exchange lessons learnt on the best practices of social welfare and development, particularly, the strengthening of social protection for vulnerable children in ASEAN, according to Deputy Director General of Department of Planning and International Cooperation, Ministry of Labour and Social Welfare, Mr Thiphasone Soukhsthammavong.
There are many vulnerable people not yet fully protected from the risks in some ASEAN member states including the Lao PDR. These include unemployed, vulnerable children, persons with disabilities, elderly persons, victims of natural disasters, said Mr Thiphasone Soukhsthammavong.
Agreements reached at the meeting will be proposed to the 10th ASEAN Ministerial Meeting on Social Welfare and Development to be held in Vientiane Capital on Nov 21.
