Contractors report significant progress in building Laos-China railway

Contractors have reported sound progress in constructing the Laos-China railway as 89.43 % of planned structural construction work had been carried out by the end of May.

Sixty-five out of 75 tunnels have been bored, 164 bridges built, 1,959 bridge columns constructed, and 36.6% of girder erection work conducted, according to Head of the Laos-China Railway Project Management Committee Chantoula Phanalasy.

Track laying between Vientiane Capital’s Naxaythong district and Luang Prabang reaches 49.7 km. Design for the entire project is 409 km.

The construction progress was reported at the 8th plenary meeting of the Laos-China Railway Project Steering Committee held in Luang Prabang on Jun 22 under the chairmanship of Vice Prime Minister and Head of the Laos-China Railway Project Steering Committee Bounthong Chitmany.

The meeting was attended by ministers, vice governors from provinces concerned, representatives of mass organizations and authorities concerned.
