Early Warning equipment donated to Borikhamxay and Saravan

UNDP in collaboration with the Ministry of Labor and Social Welfare handed over Early Warning (EW) equipment, supported by the “Turkey-UNDP Partnership in Development for Strengthening Early Warning Systems and Incorporating UXO Risk Education in the Lao PDR” project, which is funded by the Turkish government, in Sibounheuang village, Thabor village in Paksan district, Borikhamxay province, and Thuangxe village, Hatsaikham village in Khongxedon District, Saravan Province.

After the handover, the project team refreshed the early warning system and evacuation in each village with slides presentation, Keywords Q&A, evacuation mapping, and simulation exercise.

The objective of this mission is to build capacity for Village Disaster Committee and community members for disaster preparedness as well as preventing the lost to people lives and their properties especially for the vulnerable groups to ensure for Leave No One Behind.

Deputy Director General of the Social Welfare Department, LSW, Mr. Mixay Sengchanthavong and local officials including Paksan District Vice Governor Phokham Chanthasouk, Deputy Director of the Borikhamxay Provincial Department of Labour and Social Welfare Sopha Chanthavong, Director of the Saravan Provincial Department of Labour and Social Welfare Mr. Khambai Simuengkhoun, Head of Khongxedon District of Labour and Social Welfare Bouaphan Xayavong and representatives of Provincial and District Labour and Social Welfare, District Vice Governors of Paksan and Khongxedon also joined the mission.
