Minister of Foreign Affairs Saleumxay Kommasith met his Vietnamese counterpart Pham Binh Minh in Quang Ninh, Vietnam on Dec 25.
Mr Saleumxay is visiting Vietnam to co-chair the 6th political consultation meeting between the ministries of foreign affairs of Laos and Vietnam and the 29th meeting of Laos-Vietnam border committee.
Scheduled for Dec 23-27, the visit aims to enhance traditional relations, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation between Laos and Vietnam.
At the bilateral meeting both sides reviewed their cooperation on foreign affairs and in related areas, and exchanged points of view on regional and international issues of common interest.
They noted that the great relations, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation between the two countries have been strengthened in all areas especially on politics, defense, public security, trade, investment, energy and mines.
Both sides spoke highly of their roles in promoting the implementation of agreements signed by leaders of the two countries and appreciated the collective efforts they have made to ensure Laos-Vietnam border is of peace and comprehensive and sustainable development.
The minister also paid separate courtesy calls to other leaders of Vietnam including Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc, President of National Assembly Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan.
The Vietnamese leaders highly valued the roles of the two foreign ministries in strengthening the great relations, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation between Laos and Vietnam.
