FM Saleumxay holds phone talks with Malaysian counterpart

Minister of Foreign Affairs Saleumxay Kommasith held telephone talks with his Malaysian counterpart Dato’ Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein to strengthen the sound relations and cooperation between Laos and Malaysia on Sep 17, 2020.

Both ministers discussed the possibility in facilitating the home travels of Lao and Malaysian people with charter flights, and ways to facilitate businesses, tourist industries and medical assistance for anti-Covid-19 efforts.

They also discussed economic issues including cooperation on promoting their industrial goods in the Middle East to ensure economic recovery from Covid-19. The ministers also noted that the traditional relations and sound cooperation have been constantly strengthened and that the 1st July, 2021 will mark the 55th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

The two countries will co-organize activities and exchange visits of the leaders of the two countries to celebrate the anniversary.

They also discussed preparations for the 4th Lao-Malaysian Joint Committee (JC) Meeting and spoke highly of the importance of such a mechanism to cooperation on politics, trade, investment, and cultural exchange, among others.

Minister Saleumxay also invited his Malaysian counterpart to visit the Lao PDR to co-chair the 4th Lao-Malaysian Joint Committee Meeting at his appropriate time.
