France, Luxembourg strongly support Lao-French bilingual classes in public schools

On September 14, an official handover ceremony for primary school books was held at the Ministry of Education and Sports in the presence of Director General of the General Education Department Sisouk Vongvichith, Cooperation Attaché at the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg Embassy Nicolas Tasch, and Counselor for Cooperation and Cultural Action at the French Embassy Patrick Cohen.

The Lao-French bilingual section, established in 1995 within the public schooling system of the Ministry of Education and Sports with the support of the French Cooperation, has grown significantly to reach a nationwide coverage with 13 public schools located in Vientiane, Savannakhet, Pakse and Luang Prabang.

Thanks to the support of France and Luxembourg, 42 primary teachers and 1,350 school children, aged 8 to 10, will benefit from brand new textbooks in French language and mathematics.

In her speech, Ms Sisouk Vongvichith declared that the bilingual classes were considered as a model in the primary education field in Laos.

She added that these new teaching-learning materials were definitely a great asset for the French-Lao bilingual classes as they further enhance the teaching practices and improve the learning outcomes of students.

Mr Nicolas Tasch and Mr Patrick Cohen reaffirmed the continuous support of Luxembourg and France to the bilingual classes in the Lao PDR.
