(KPL) On October 18, Pasathipatai Secondary School received the Label Franc Education in recognition of its successful bilingual Lao-French language programme.
The Label Franc Education is an official international accreditation the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs grants through its Agency for French Education Abroad to schools offering a French bilingual programme.
The official ceremony took place in the presence of Ms Florence Jeanblanc-Risler, Ambassador of France to the Lao PDR and Mr Houmpheng Somsanouk, Deputy Director, Bilateral Cooperation, International Cooperation Department of the Ministry of Education and Sports.
The “Label Franc Aducation” recognizes and rewards schools that offer students enhanced instruction in the French language while also teaching other subjects in French: namely mathematics, physics, chemistry and biology in Laos.
The Lao-French bilingual section, established in 1995 within the state education system of the Ministry of Education and Sports with the support of French assistance programmes, has grown significantly to reach a nationwide coverage with 13 public schools in Vientiane, Luang Prabang, Savannakhet and Pakse.
Luang Prabang has the highest enrollment rate in the bilingual classes (880 students out of 3,000 nationwide). In addition to Pasathipatai Secondary School, three primary schools in Luang Prabang are part of the bilingual programme in Luang Prabang. Pasathipatai School is the second school in Laos to have been awarded the prestigious award “Label Franc Education”.
Pasathipatai School is now part of a growing worldwide network of 395 schools in 59 countries. It will benefit from additional teacher training and access to selected resources from the CANOPE online platform supported by the French Ministry of Education.
The platform mainly produces digital teaching resources designed to meet the needs of the educational community.
