The long standing cooperation between the two sister nations of Laos and Vietnam is playing a great role inthe sustainable development of the Lao labour sector.
Minister of Labour and Social Welfare Khampheng Xaysompheng made this statement at a press conference in Vientiane Capital on June 15.
This year, Laos and Vietnam are preparing to celebrate the annual anniversary of special solidarity between the two countries: the 55th anniversary of diplomatic ties and the 40th anniversary of signing the friendship and cooperation treaty.
Lao-Vietnamese cooperation has successfully developed workers’ skills in Laos, the protection of workers’ benefits and advanced the special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation between two countries, said Mr Khampheng.
Many Vietnamese labour assistance projects have been carried out in Laos, aiming to upgrade Lao workers’ vocational competence and capacity to internationally recognised standards.
At present, 16 Lao officials of the Ministry are studying in Vietnam to get their higher diplomas, bachelor and masters degrees. Some of them are getting bachelor’s and master’s degrees in prosthetics and orthotics.
Vietnam provides intensive vocational training to almost 100 staff of the Ministry of Labour and Social Welfare every year.
In response, the ministry has granted scholarships to Vietnamese officials of the Ministry of Social Welfare to study Lao language at the National University of Laos.
Every year, Vietnamese workers are dispatched to work in the Lao PDR, particularly in investment projects of the two countries.
In 2017, about 2,750 Vietnamese workers came to work in the Lao PDR, a number lower than that of the previous year. In 2016, 3,743 Vietnamese workers came to work in Laos, and in 2015, there were 4,746.
This year, Laos and Vietnam will continue improving the effectiveness of bilateral collaboration in education, training and human resource development in the labour development sector. The ministry will closely supervise and push forward the execution of high-level agreements and programmes for cooperation between the two ministries.
