(KPL) The cabinet of the Ministry of Health has issued a notification urging relevant authorities across the country to take preventive actions against deadly Novel Coronavirus 2019. No cases have been reported in Laos.
On Dec 31, 2019, WHO was informed of a cluster of cases of pneumonia of unknown cause detected in Wuhan City, Hubei province of China.
A novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV) was identified as the causative virus by Chinese authorities on Jan 7.
On Jan 10, WHO published a range of interim guidance for all countries on how they can prepare for this virus, including how to monitor for sick people, test samples, treat patients, control infection in health centres, maintain the right supplies, and communicate with the public about this new virus.
As of Jan 20, 282 confirmed cases of 2019-nCoV have been reported from four countries including China (278 cases), Thailand (2), Japan (1) and the Republic of Korea (1). Cases in Thailand, Japan and Republic of Korea were exported from Wuhan City, China.
Among the 278 cases confirmed in China, 258 cases were reported from Hubei province, 14 from Guangdong province, five from Beijing Municipality and one from Shanghai Municipality.
Of the 278 confirmed cases, 51 cases are severely ill, 12 are in critical condition. Six deaths have been reported from Wuhan City.
