The celebration of Hmong New Year, known locally as Nao Pe Chau, was held at Samket village, Sikhottabong district, Vientiane Capital.
Scheduled for Dec 27- Jan 5, the Hmong New Year celebration includes ball tossing, singing contest, Qeej performances and sporting activities, such as top spinning, kicking, Miss Hmong Contest and bull fighting.
The festival plays an important role in encouraging local solidarity, giving people a chance to look back at the past year and make plans for New Year. It also provides an opportunity for young people to learn about their traditions and culture, said Mr Thongvilay Lithideth, chairman of the organizing committee.
This festival aims to promote greater understanding among Hmong people and the conservation of their distinct history, fascinating rituals, and unique traditions, said Mr Thongvilay.
