(KPL) Hongsa District Agricultural Promotion Cooperative, Xayaboury province has received water filtering equipment worth over 100,000 baht from by the Hongsa Power Company.
The hanover of the equipment took place on Monday between Managing Director of Hongsa Power Company, Mr Kathayuth Chupoon and Head of Agricultural Promotion Cooperative, Mr Thong Simmathong and in the presence of representatives from relevant authorities.
The Hongsa Power Company Social Development Committee in cooperation with concerned provincial and district authorities has built a learning centre to involve local people in organic farming.
We want to make it the best agricultural learning centre in the northern part of Laos. A variety of vegetable and fruits including strawberry, aquatic animals and even bees will be farmed at this centre, said Mr. Yuthana Chulpanthong, Director, Corporate Communication, Hongsa Power Company.
Founding a cooperative of handicraft makers and farmers is also among efforts the company is making to promote economic growth and development in local communities.
The Hongsa Power Company operates the Hongsa Thermal Power Plant with an installed generation capacity of 1,878 MW, the largest in the country. Only 100 MW of its generated power is sold to the Electricite du Lao (EDL), the rest 1,473 MW is sold to the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand.
The Hongsa Power Company is owned by three companies with Lao Holding State Enterprise (LHSE) holding 20% shares, Banpu Power, a Thai enterprise, sharing a 40% stake and RH International Mauritius Corporation owning 40% of the total shares.
