(KPL) The Government of Japan has provided grant assistance worth USD 213,927 for the UXO Risk Education and Economic Support Project in Xieng Khuang Province.
The contract for the grant project was signed at the Embassy of Japan in Vientiane on Mar 4 between Mr Takwwaka Keizo, Ambassador of Japan to the Lao PDR and Mr Ezumi Tai, Project Manager of Terra Renaissance, a Japanese non-profit organisation that manages the project.
The grant will support activities in the first year of the two-year project, according to Mr Ezumi Tai.
The project aims to enable children to avoid UXO accidents so that they can get opportunities for higher education in the future.
In addition, the project also tries to secure the multiple income sources of the social-economically vulnerable people through providing the vocational training of the highly required skills for them.
Terra Renaissance has been addressing the issues of landmines, child soldiers, small arms, light weapons and peace education in order to achieve the vision, “Bring peace to the world”.
