(KPL) The Japanese Culture Day was organised by the Embassy of Japan in the Lao PDR, in cooperation with the Japan Foundation Asia Centre, the Laos-Japan Institute and the Vientiane Center on Sep 21.
Many Lao people from different generations attended this event to get acquainted with Japanese culture. The event included many Japanese cultural activities, including trying on ayukata (a Japanese summer outfit), origami (paper folding), furoshiki (wrapping in cloth), shodo (Japanese calligraphy), Shogi (a Japanese board game), Japanese traditional toys and a Japanese language quiz. This event provided those interested in trying things out the chance to do just that, while getting advice from Japanese teachers and Lao assistants studying Japanese language.
During the event, the experienced instructors from the Laos-Japan Institute gave a lecture on kimono, a traditional Japanese garment, and demonstrated how to tie the obi, a sash for the kimono.
Furthermore, Mr. Khampasong Thirasack also known as OLA, the talented singer of the immensely popular group BLACK EYES, appeared on stage to talk about his experiences in Japan. The audience also enjoyed an Aikido (a modern Japanese martial art) demonstration, a performance by the Lao Navy, a beloved and talented idol group, and other performances.
