KOICA Office in the Lao PDR donated emergency supplies for the prevention of COVID-19’ to Children’s Hospital in Vientiane Capital on April 30.
In order to support the vulnerable group (especially for children) suffering from COVID-19, KOICA donated emergent medical supplies and goods to the hospital, as a part of KOICA Fellowship Alumni Activity.
The handover of the goods took place between Ms. Wonyoung YEO, Deputy Resident Representative of KOICA Office and Dr. Phonedavanh, Deputy of Children’s Hospital in the presence of relevant officials and KOICA Fellowship Programme’s alumni from the hospital.
The Lao PDR has announced its first COVID-19 case on March 24, and the number of confirmed cases was 19 as of May 4.
The Lao PDR is conducting intensive prevention methods such as the extension of the Order of the Prime Minister and closure of schools. In response to the COVID-19 in the Lao PDR, KOICA Office provided COVID-19 preventive supplies and goods for vulnerable groups, especially for children.
In the severe situations of COVID-19, the KOICA alumni working at Children’s Hospital is cooperating with KOICA by using experience and know-how they gained from fellowship programmes to prevent the infection of COVID-19 for Lao children.
The supplies included COVID-19 preventive equipment (masks, children’s multivitamins, and antipyretic patches, portable hand sanitizers, hand cleaners, attaching sanitizers, thermometers) and children’s goods (color pencils and stationery sets).
“KOICA hopes that this donation prepared with Children’s Hospital and the KOICA Alumni will help prevent the hospital and children from COVID-19 and stay strong,” said Ms. Wonyoung YEO, deputy representative, KOICA Office in the Lao PDR.
