Lao and Japanese athletes share insights, equipment granted by the government of Japan

(KPL) Lao power lifter Pia Laophakdy and Japanese Paralympic sporting shooter Taguchi Aki shared experiences and insights with audience on the theme Road To the Tokyo Paralympic Games 2020 in lectures at the Olympic Hall in Vientiane Capital on Mach 3.

These two Lao and Japanese athletes told the audience including some Lao athletes with disabilities about their life before being well known athletes and their thought and dream.

They shared experiences and gave some good advices and thought for other Lao athletes with disabilities.

Mr. Pia Laophakdy as Lao Powerlifter said that everyone can not choose to be born but everyone can choose to be as following their hope.

Ms. Taguchi talked about the significance of the Paralympic Games as well as its impact and legacy on society along with her own life experiences of using a wheelchair since the age of 25.

Mr. Pia spoke about his wishes towards the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games and his thoughts on realizing an inclusive society through promotion of Parasports.

Following the lectures by Ms. Taguchi and Mr. Pia, a grant contract for the Cultural Grassroots Projects (CGP) project in sports was also signed at the same site, between Mr. Takewaka Keizo, Ambassador of Japan to the Lao PDR, and Mr. Sithat Chanthaboury, Vice President, Secretary General of the National Paralympic Committee of the Lao PDR.

The signing was witnessed by Mrs. Sengdeuane Lachanthaboune, Minister of Education and Sports and officials of both sides.

The government of Japan provided the grant assistance worth USD 18,553 as a part of The Project for Provision of Sports Equipment for Athletes with Disabilities.

The aim of the project is to improve the environment for training and ability of athletes with disabilities, providing sports equipment for weight-lifting. The equipment will be installed at Anouvong Stadium and the facilities of Asian Development with the Disabled Persons (ADDP), a Japanese NGO, which is assisting Lao athletes with disabilities.

In his remarks, Ambassador Takewaka said The year 2020 is memorable as the Olympic and Paralympic Games will be held in Japan. Let’s think together about significance of Paralympic sports and how we can realize an inclusive society, through watching and participating in Paralympic sports.
