The number of victims affected by the Laos-China railway project has reportedly amounted to 953 families in 41 villages in three districts of Xay, Nga and Namor in Oudomxay Province.
The number was disclosed at a review meeting last week regarding compensation to project-affected victims in Oudomxay Province, which drew Oudomxay Deputy Governor, Mr Khamphieng Yachongva and participants from the Division of Provincial Public Works and Transport.
The committee, responsible for collecting data on victims affected by the Laos-China railway construction project has revealed that over 600 ha of locally-owned land with 417 houses and other buildings, and 230,000 trees will be compensated for.
The review meeting also agreed to provide compensation for the project-affected victims in Vientiane Capital, Luang Namtha and Luang Prabang Provinces that is according to regulations that were made to ensure that compensations is fair and just.
