The Department of State will introduce new functionality to the Department’s flagship website (www.state.gov). The effort is part of a series of enhancements to improve the overall State.gov user experience?.
The updated State.gov feature set will include:
A fully responsive design that will allow easier access to content across devices;
A more streamlined navigational structure; and
Improved integration with popular Department of State social media properties.
With the launch of this enhanced functionality, the Department of State website-which receives approximately 40 million page views annually-will be “fully responsive,” making content easier to view whether being accessed via desktop, laptop, tablet, or smartphone.
The streamlined navigational structure will feature a condensed top-level menu, as well as links to commonly accessed pages, e.g. passports, visas, and travel information, under a ?”Quick Links” section prominently displayed on the State.gov homepage.
The updated State.gov ?also will deliver better integration with Department of State flagship social media properties. Application program interfaces (APIs) will now automatically pull content from the Department of State’s most popular social media platforms, such as Twitter,? DipNote, and Flickr, directly to the homepage.
This set of enhancements and improved functionality reflects a broader emphasis on data-driven decisions and user-centric design within the Federal Government. The improvements also reflect a strong commitment by the Department of State to improve access to information and enhance the user experience of our web properties.
