Law on Film introduced to lawmakers

The Minister of Information, Culture and Tourism Kikeo Khaykhamphithoune presented on Nov 27 the Law on Film to the ongoing 8th ordinary session of the 8th Legislature of the National Assembly for consideration and approval.

The minister said that the law is expected to better encourage domestic and international filmmakers to make films in Laos.

Apart from promoting growth in the film industry, said Mr. Kikeo, the new law will provide clearer guidelines for the administrators of film production when addressing disputes and enable them to learn from the international community about how to effectively regulate the film industry.

Laos currently administers film production according to a Prime Ministerial Decree on Film, according to the Ministry of Information, Culture and Tourism.
