National Assembly’s 9th ordinary session opened

The 9th ordinary session of the National Assembly’s 8th legislature was opened this morning in Vientiane Capital in the presence of the President of the National Assembly Pany Yathortou, President Bounnhang Vorachit, Prime Minister Thongloun Sisoulith and other Party and government leaders, and people’s representatives.

The meeting will last through July 2.

Following the opening remarks by the NA President, Prime Minister Thongloun Sisoulith briefed the meeting about the government performance in the first five months, including its implementation of the national socio-economic development plan and the state budget plan.

PM Thongloun also briefed the people’s representatives about economic estimates for the first six months, and priorities for the second half of the year.

Over the next 7 days, members of the National Assembly are expected to consider and approve reports on the implementation of the socio-economic development plan, state budget plan, and monetary plan in the first five months, and other issues of national importance.

The meeting will witnessed the clarification by representatives from government bodies on issues raised by members of the National Assembly, consider and approve the appointment of key positions at the National Assembly.

The performance of the National Assembly in the first six months and plans for the second half of the year will also be reported at the meeting.

The meeting will also consider draft amendments to the Law on National Assembly, Law on Provincial People’s Council, Law on the election of members of the National Assembly and Provincial People’s Council, and Law on Customs.
