The Ministry of National Defense on Jan 20 held a ceremony to celebrate the 68th anniversary of the Lao People’s Army (Jan 20, 1949-2017in the presence of Minister of National Defence Chansamone Chanyalath and other senior military officials.
Addressing the gathering, Lt. Gen Chansamone highlighted the victories and achievements recorded by the Lao People’s Army over the past 68 years under the leadership of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party.
“Our army has recorded a number of profound achievements in the golden pages of the history of the Lao People’s Army and that of the nation. These have been represented in the growth of the army, from small armed units established individually in localities and equipped with conventional weapons, to a revolutionary force comprising several military departments,” said the minister.
“Since our nation was liberalised, the army, firmly grasping the two strategic tasks, has upheld its tradition and integrated armed forces with comprehensive growth, making it ready to defend the country, and dismantle plots of enemy sides,” said the minister.
He also spoke highly of the active participation of the Lao People’s Army in implementing the resolutions of the 9th and 10th Party National Congresses and that of the 4th General Meeting of the Party Cell of the Ministry of National Defence, thus contributing to national political stability and order in the public and creating favourable conditions for national socio-economic development.
