In a first for the Company and for Laos, the programme aims to develop the in-house capabilities of local supervisors and team leaders by broadening their understanding of operational improvement tools and methodologies.

Mr Xieng Malavong and Mr Chanthy Norlorkham both from the Company’s Phu Kham Copper-Gold Operation’s Fixed Plant Maintenance Department completed the programme in September.

The demanding secondment including coaching and a rotation with the Company’s Operations Improvement Department to familiarise themselves with Lean principles for leaders and associated training materials.

The programme culminated in their co-facilitation of a two-day workshop for 18 PBM employees and contractors about safe, effective and efficient production and maintenance techniques.

Mr Xieng and Mr Chanthy have returned to their day-to-day roles and will pass on their knowledge and newly acquired skills to help develop the Lean techniques of their teams which will safeguard efficient and effective production at PBM’s Operations.

The programme will extend to the Company’s Ban Houayxai Gold-Silver Operation in October on the back of the success of the initial programme at Phu Kham.

PBM Chairman Chanpheng Bounnaphol noted that the programme aligns with the Company’s long term commitment to leaving a lasting positive legacy in Laos.

The programme is one of the Company’s initiatives that supports skills development and building the capabilities of Lao-national employees, particularly from villages close to where the Company operates. We hope in the future that our Lao-national employees in this programme may become trainers for local workforce, Mr Bounnaphol said.
