Prime Minister Thongloun Sisoulith paid a guidance visit to Borikhamxay province on Nov 18.
He was greeted by Borikhamxay Governor Kongkeo Xaysongkham and other senior officials of the province.
Addressing a gathering of senior officials at the main hall of the province, PM Thongloun appreciated the achievements the province has made over the past years as well as the success of the 7th general meeting of the Party Cell of the province and expressed his confidence that the new Party committee of the province will achieve in leading the development in the province and addressing unresolved issues.
The premier urged provincial authorities to attach greater attention to considering economic potentials in the province especially its geographical advantage to be developed as a transport hub for southern and northern provinces and neigbouring countries so that they can better devise their socio-economic development plan and identify development priorities.
He also urged the province to promote investment in commercial production, especially clean agriculture, organic farming for domestic and export markets; attach importance to the effective management and efficient use of natural resources; stop timber exploitation; and promote tourism.
He urged the province to continue to attach attention to preventive and control measures against Covid-19 and promote thriftiness lifestyles.
PM Thongloun also visited model vegetable and fish farmers in Pakbung village, Paksan district.
Borikhamxay province is expected to record an economic growth of 2.73% this year with GDP estimated to reach 5.8 trillion kip (approx. US$626 million) and per capita income expected to reach US$2,136.
