PM Urged Foreign Affairs to Continue Tradition of Hard Work

Prime Minister Thongloun Sisoulith urged the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ leaders, officials and civil servants to continue to observe their tradition of working hard to promote foreign affairs over years to come.

“Over 40 years of development in the foreign affairs sector, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has contributed to promoting peace, independence, friendship and cooperation with foreign countries, thus contributing to national protection and development in the country,” PM Thongloun noted at the 13th meeting on foreign affairs on Friday.

PM Thongloun, who served as Minister of Foreign Affairs for 10 years, praised the achievements recorded over the past three years by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs as well as its efforts to enhance cooperation and relations between the Lao PDR and the world community and strategic partners.

“Currently, Laos has diplomatic relations with 139 countries worldwide and has 39 Lao embassies operational worldwide,” said Minister of Foreign Affairs Saleumxay Khommasith.

He said that one of the key topics raised at the three-day meeting stressed the importance of strengthening ties and cooperation with strategic partners in the regional and world community.

The plan for foreign affairs of the ministry for the years 2017-2019 was also approved at the meeting.
