All of us need to be more responsible for our country and our people by staying more cautiously and paying attention to implementing strictly the measures imposed by the taskforce committee, Prime Minister Phankham Viphavanh told a press conference in Vientiane on Apr 19.
“I understand that the measures are creating unfavourable conditions for the typical lifestyle but they are necessary. We need to protect the life of our people, do what we can to prevent such severe outbreaks as in many countries, especially the countries sharing borderlines with us which are hit by second and third waves of Covid-19 outbreak. Some days, their daily infection reaches 1,500-1,800 people,” said Prime Minister Phankham Viphavanh.
He urged relevant authorities to increase monitoring and patrol activities along borderlines to prevent illegal migration from neighbouring countries where community outbreak is being reported.
Local administrations were urged to put in place strict measures and play an active role in monitoring the entry of individuals returning from Covid-hit countries.
The prime minister called on all sectors in the society to receive Covid-19 vaccines in an active and voluntary manner and urged civil servants, armed force and police personnel to be an example in protecting themselves, family and the society from Covid-19.
Businesses and individuals wishing to contribute to the procurement of Covid-19 vaccines for their employees or target groups in the society are required to notify the National Taskforce Committee for Covid-19 Prevention and Control on their intent immediately so that consideration can be made on the quantity, brand and target groups of the vaccines.
He urged the taskforce committees at all levels to improve the standards of quarantine centres and comply with established measures, and impose reasonable punishment against law violators.
The premier also urged target groups to receive Covid-19 vaccines immediately to reduce Covid-19 outbreak in the country and asked all public members and sectors in the society to provide cooperation and comply with the measures of the National Taskforce Committee for Covid-19 Prevention and Control and contribute to prevention and control efforts against Covid-19.
The government has an ambitious plan to have 22% of population in the country vaccinated against Covid-19 by the end of this year.
