(KPL) Minister of Labour and Social Welfare Khampheng Xaysompheng on Tuesday presented relief items donated by public members and local and international organisations to over 300 families of flood victims in Attapeu Province.
The relief items included daily necessities, and instant foods.
Last month, the authorities paid US$ 10,000 to the families and relatives of each person killed in a deadly flood in Sanamxay district, Attapeu Province in last July, according to Ms Manila Saysomboun, Vice Chief of Sanamxay District, Attapeu Province.
Since July 24, 2018, the donation by general public members, domestic and international organisations and international community for flood relief and rehabilitation efforts in Laos has reached over 133 billion kip. This includes over 52 billion kip in cash, and over 80 billion kip in kind. Additionally, over 710 tonnes of rice have been donated for humanitarian purposes.
In late July last year, a deadly flood was caused when one of the four saddle dams of the Xepian-Xe Nam Noy hydropower project collapsed.
The flood affected a total of 13 villages, home to 13,067 people, in Sanamxay district killing dozens of people and left over 7,000 people homeless.
