Sectors Discuss Stakeholder Engagement For Sustainable Development

(KPL) The Ministry of Foreign Affairs with support of UN-DESA, UNESCAP and the UN Country Team convened Government planning focal points from across sectors for a workshop on stakeholder engagement for the 2030 Agenda.

Mr. Anouparb Vongnorkeo, Director-General of the Department of International Organizations at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, who chaired the meeting, emphasized the importance of engaging all parts of the government, private sector and other national partners, vertically and horizontally.

Stakeholder engagement is critical for the country’s sustainable development in line with the 8th National Socio-Economic Development Plan and our objective to leave no one behind, Mr. Vongnorkeo said, Capacity development of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) Secretariat and SDG focal points provides the basis for accelerating SDG achievement.

The workshop aimed to develop the capacities of members of the national SDG Secretariat and of ministerial SDG focal points to enhance inter-ministerial coordination, increase policy coherence and boost the engagement of stakeholders in national planning and implementation.

Stakeholder engagement can help you identify those who are most vulnerable and marginalized, help target support to them and provide them a voice when decisions are made that affect their lives, UN Resident Coordinator Sara Sekkenes stated as she addressed the participants.

The success of our collective journey towards 2030 will depend on bridging the gap between people and national policy setting, added UNDP Resident Representative Ricarda Rieger, who co-chaired the event.
