Sericultural knowhow shared to farmers

The Biotechnology and Ecology Institute of the Ministry of Science and Technology in cooperation with Song Meu Nang Company and Xuzhou University of Technology (China) organized a symposium on sericulture under a sericulture industrialization and modernization project.

Held in Vientiane between Dec 15-17, the workshop was co-chaired by President of Song Meu Nang Company Keosaychai Xayasone, Minister of Science and Technology Boviengkham Vongdara and Vice President of Zuzhou University Lao Mr Huang Xing.

The workshop also witnessed the participation of Minister of Information, Culture and Tourism Kikeo Khaykhamphithoune, and over 150 representatives of relevant ministries, offices, National University of Laos, Lao Handicraft Association, and sericulture farmers.

The workshop aimed to provide opportunities to sericultural farmers, silk companies and experts to discuss and share lessons on sericulture.

Sericultural experts from Zuzhou University of Technology and Biotechnology and Ecology Institute, Song Meu Nang Company and silk companies from Xieng Khuang and Vientiane provinces also gave presentations on sericulture.

The participants also visited the 8-ha sericulture demonstration farm of Song Meu Nang Company where they were given mulberry saplings to plant in their own farms.
