Special ASEAN-China Foreign Ministers’ Meeting on COVID-19 held

The Special ASEAN-China Foreign Ministers’ Meeting on Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19) was hosted this morning in Vientiane, Lao PDR, and co-chaired by Philippine Secretary of Foreign Affairs Teodoro L. Locsin., Jr, and China’s State Counselor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi.

The meeting was attended by ASEAN foreign ministers, ASEAN Secretary General and relevant officials.

ASEAN ministers expressed sympathy to China over novel coronavirus outbreak and appreciated the preventive and response measures and efforts made by the Chinese government against the novel coronavirus disease � Covid-19 and voiced their confidence that the government and people of China will certainly overcome difficulties at this period of time.

The meeting discussed and exchanged points of view and lessons on finding solutions to the epidemic problem, designing measures and cooperation to prevent, respond and suppress the outbreak of Covid-19.

The meeting also adopted the Statement of the Special ASEAN-China Foreign Ministers’ Meeting on Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19)) and designated relevant authorities to materialize the statement.

Prior to the meeting, the Special Meeting of the ASEAN Coordinating Council (ACC)) on the outbreak of COVID-19 was held and chaired by Vietnam, the rotary chair of ASEAN for 2020. The meeting was attended by ASEAN foreign ministers, and ASEAN Secretary General.

The meeting reviewed the efforts made by ASEAN in preventing, addressing and responding to COVID-19 and approved plans.

Foreign Minister Saleumxay Kommasith, as chairman of the meetings, shared with the participants the lessons and efforts made by the Lao government in preventing, suppressing and responding to the outbreak of novel coronavirus Covid-19.
