Supreme People’s Prosecutor and Court help to Ensure Social Order

Over the past five years (2011-2015), the Office of the Supreme People’s Prosecutor has settled 29,707 civil and criminal cases out of a total amount of 30,067.

Participants of the 2nd Ordinary Session of the National Assembly were briefed on the performance of the Supreme People’s Prosecutor by the President of the Office of the Supreme People’s Prosecutor, Mr Khamsan Souvong, on Nov 1.

Mr Khamsan said that the cases settled over the past five year by the Supreme People’s Prosecutor accounted for 98.80 percent of total cases. Of the cases, 21,262 have been filed with the People’s Supreme Court.

The Office of the Supreme People’s Prosecutors also improved the laws on civil procedures, legislation, an agreement of President of the Office of the Supreme People’s Prosecutor related to the liability of prosecutors and assistants, an agreement on the responsibilities of general public prosecutors, a textbook on resolving civil and criminal cases and others.

At the second week of the ongoing National Assembly meeting, President of the People’s Supreme Court Mr Khamphanh Sitthidampha reported on the results of its works over the past five years and its contribution to maintaining social order.

The People’s Supreme Court has also performed well and has settled 36,000 out of the 37,846 cases occurring in the general public over the past five years.

Accounting for 90% of total cases, divorces made up the majority, followed by bank loan issues, burglaries, and drug offenses.
