An exhibition of tree saplings was held at Lao ITECC on May 31 to mark the annual celebration of National Arbour Day and the June 1 International Children’ s Day.
Present at the opening ceremony were Deputy Prime Minister Sonxay Siphandone, line ministers and deputy ministers.
General Director of the Forestry Department Susath Sayakoumman stated that the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, in cooperation with relevant departments and Vientiane Agriculture and Forestry Division, organised an exhibition of tree saplings to mark the 37th anniversary of National Arbour Day in relation with International Children’s Day, celebrated on June 1. This event aims to raise awareness among young people about the benefits of forests and increase their love, protection and conservation of existing forest resources.
The exhibition also mobilises all social strata participation in forestry, ranging from preparation of tree seeds, the use of tree saplings, tree plantation, and the protection and development of forests, he said.
The move is to provide abundant forests as a significant potential for poverty reduction among local people and to contribute to the socio-economic development of the country.
The tree sapling exhibition drew 27 private businesses displaying more than 30 kinds of rare trees in 64 booths at the venue.
