UNICEF Representative calls on Vice Premier

UNICEF Representative to the Lao PDR Pia Rebello Britto paid a courtesy visit to Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Planning and Investment Sonexay Siphandone on Nov 18 on the occasion of her appointment to the post.

During the courtesy visit, the vice premier congratulated the UNICEF representative for her appointment to the post and appreciated UNICEF assistance to the Lao PDR in the implementation of Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The vice premier told the guest that he was looking forward to continuing close collaboration with UNICEF on the efforts towards achieving the goals of the 8th National Socio-Economic Development Plan, graduation from the Least Developed Country status and implementation of the SDGs.

He also highlighted the important areas of the cooperation in the future such as the improvement of health care, nutrition, immunization, early childhood development, child protection as well as COVID – 19 prevention and protection.

Expressing thanks to the vice premier for his warm welcome and appreciation of UNICEF’s work, Ms Pia Rebello Britto assured that she would on her part, do her best to fulfil her duties in further strengthening and promoting the collaboration and cooperation between the government of the Lao PDR and UNICEF in realization of the rights of the children in the Lao PDR, particularly the Lao Generation 2030.

She expressed her confidence that through the strong partnership with the government of the Lao PDR and close collaboration with other partners, the objectives of the new programme of cooperation for 2017-21 will be achieved contributing to the priorities of the national development agenda and Sustainable Development Goals.

She also conveyed her best wishes for continued progress and prosperity of the people of the Lao PDR, especially children – the future of the country.
