(KPL) Vientiane Book Festival, the second of its kind, will be held between Oct 19 and 27 at Vientiane Center, Vientiane Capital to promote the roles of teachers in Laos and mobilize public supports for schools in need as more than 500 schools in the capital city lack story books and other kinds of educational materials.
The festival aims to ensure reading is largely promoted, open opportunities for Lao people to experience firsthand international books and vice versa and make the general public realize the importance of reading and encourage their participation in reading promotion, especially in helping schools in Vientiane Capital to have a wide range of story books, said Mr. Somphone Sonedara, Deputy Director, Vientiane Capital Department of Education and Sports.
Essay competition under the theme khou nai douang chai Teacher in My Heart will be organized as a sidelines event along with a debate my first teacher, a quiz on ASEAN, a short film competition My best teacher, a singing contest, and songwriting contest, among others.
More than 90 Lao and Thai printing houses, international organizations, entrepreneurs, schools and associations are expected to exhibit their books at the event.
