Chairman of the National Assembly of Vietnam Vuong Dinh Hue paid a working visit to Champassak Province on May 17 where he was warmly welcomed by Champassak Governor Vilayvong Boutdakham.
While meeting with the provincial governor, the Vietnamese NA President was briefed about the socio-economic development and fight against Covid-19 in the southernmost province of Laos.
Governor Vilayvong also highlighted the attention local authorities have attached to the implementation of priority projects and the investment of Vietnamese companies in the province.
He also spoke highly of the assistance from Vietnam for Covid-19 fight in the province.
Champassak currently maintains cooperation with 22 provinces and cities of Vietnam. Its cooperation focuses on economy, trade, investment, education, health, and the search for the remains of Vietnamese soldiers who laid down their lives in Laos.
For his part, the Vietnamese top legislator praised the achievements Champassak Province has recorded over the past years and highly evaluated the efforts made by its leaders to suppress the outbreak of Covid-19 and mitigate the impacts of Covid-caused economic recession.
The provincial governor also asked the Chairman of the National Assembly of Vietnam for his guidance on preparations for the celebration of two historic days – the 60th anniversary of Laos-Vietnam diplomatic ties (Sep 5, 1962) and the 45th anniversary of the signing of the Laos-Vietnam Treaty of Amity and Cooperation (Jul 18, 1977).
On the same day, the Vietnamese leader also laid a wreath at the Laos – Vietnam War Memorial in Paksong district to pay respect to the Lao and Vietnamese soldiers who sacrificed their lives for the independence of their respective countries.
He also visited a Vietnam-invested rubber plantation in Bachiang Chaleunsouk district, the Champassak Provincial Ethnic Boarding School and the Vietnamese Consulate General for southern Laos in Pakse before leaving for home trip.
