Authorities of the Lao-Vietnamese Nam Kan International Crossing Border Checkpoint in Xiengkhuang Province last Tuesday confiscated chemical precursors for drug processing weighing at almost 2 tonnes and detained a Vietnamese suspect.
The customs officers in cooperation with immigration officers of the Nam Kan Lao-Vietnamese International Crossing Border Checkpoint in Xiengkhoung Province detained a suspected heavy truck with license plate 37 C 08677 hiding 75 packs of illegal chemical precursors weighing at 1,875 kg and its driver Nguyen Kong Minh.
This was the second detention with in the last two months of this year. The precursors were being smuggled between two countries through the Nam Kan Lao-Vietnamese International Crossing Border Checkpoint, said Deputy Head of the Lao-Vietnamese International Nam Kan Border in Xiengkhoung Khamphath Bounmyxay.
Mr Khamphath said that last month, customs officers in cooperation with immigration officers and rangersseized9,000 kg of Mai Khayoung that were hidden in a container of a heavy truck carrying maize destined for Vietnam.
The heavy truck and seized items have been confiscated and an investigation is ongoing to further arrest other persons involved, said Mr Khamphath.
