Johnson & Johnson Covid-19 vaccination to be kicked off soon

The nationwide administration of around 1 million doses of Johnson & Johnson Covid-19 vaccine is expected to be kicked off in the next few days, according to a health official.

“We have received around 1 million doses of Johnson & Johnson Covid-19 vaccine and we are in the process of distributing them to different provinces according to the Covid-19 situation and actual conditions in each province. The nationwide administration of this vaccine will be commenced soon,” Deputy Director General of the Department of Communicable Disease Control, Ministry of Health Phonepaseuth Xayamoungkhoun told a press conference today – Jul 22.

Laos has received 1,008,000 doses of Johnson & Johnson Covid-19 vaccine donated through the global vaccine sharing programme COVAX Facility by the government of the United States.

These J&J/Janssen doses will be administered to priority groups, including people above 60 years of age, people with underlying health conditions, and health workers across the country, in line with the National Deployment and Vaccination Plan, and other target population, including those in remote and hard to reach areas.

As of Jul 20, over 1.82 million people, accounting for 24.9 per cent of population in the country, had been vaccinated against Covid-19. This included 1,059,960 people (14.45%) given first shots and 769,975 (10.49%) given second doses.
