Some 606 new Covid-19 cases and one new death have been recorded nationwide over the previous 24 hours, bringing the total to 24,916 including 5,691 active cases and 21 deaths.
The latest death was identified as a retiree, 76, in Phonthan Neua, Xaysettha district, Vientiane. He had been unvaccinated with Covid-19 vaccine and suffering from flaccid paralysis for two years.
The new daily cases included 601 classified as local infections, and five as imported cases – all in Savannakhet.
Of the local infections, 400 were detected in Vientiane, 58 in Luang Prabang, 48 in Bokeo, 24 in Vientiane (province), 23 in Xaysomboun, 16 in Champassak, 11 in Khammuan, 10 in Savannakhe, 9 in Saravan and two in Borikhamxay.
Dr Phonepaseurt Xayamongkhoun of the Department of Communicable Disease Control, Ministry of Health, told a press conference today that 235 patients were discharged from hospital over the past 24 hours making the total reach 18,431.
