Vietnamese New Year celebrated in Vientiane

The Vietnamese Embassy to the Lao PDR in cooperation with the Vietnamese People’s Association in Laos held on Tuesday’s night a reception party to celebrate the Vietnamese New Year in Vientiane Capital.

The event was joined by Deputy Prime Minister Sonesay Siphandone, Minister of National Defense Gen. Chansamone Chanyalath, Vietnamese Ambassador to Laos Nguyen Ba Hung, and other officials from Laos and Vietnam.

Ambassador Nguyen Ba Hung highlighted the rising economic growth of Vietnam as its GDP rising by 7.02%, higher than set target approved by Vietnam’s National Assembly, national income reaching US$ 266 billion, increased by 10% over 2018, per capita income reaching US$ 2,800, and poverty ratio decreasing to 4%.

Vietnam greeted over 18 million international visitors last year, according to Ambassador Nguyen Ba Hung.

The number showed a year-on-year rise of 16.2 % with tourists from Asia making up 79.9% of the total, Europe 6.4%, America 7.7%, and Africa 12.2%.

The ambassador also highlighted the special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and Laos in politic, social-economic and defense areas.

Last year, Laos-Vietnam bilateral trade reached over US$ 1.03 billion, up by 12.8% over 2018.
